When I came in Kenya I heard that the father of Maxwell died. Maxwell received a letter from home from his stepmother to come home. His father should have left a letter to him to appologize for torturing Maxwell. We found it important for Maxwell to be with his family and to read that letter. It will console him we thought...

To the big suprise of Vincent the caretaker who travelled with Maxwell and Johnson they found the father alive still asleep... I was shocked to hear this but got suspicious and wondered if Maxwell was involved in this? They spent the weekend in Thika. This is about 12 hours travelling from Mombasa, 2 hours from Nairobi. The family was happy to see Maxwell in a good health and sure Iam happy for them to see how their son has been growing. ( note Maxwell is not an orphan but brought to us by police because his father abused him.

13 October : A few days ago Maxwell apologized to me for his behaviour he is the one who wrote that letter and signed with the name of his stepmother. We are surely shocked that a 13 years old child can do such evil thing. To write a letter to yourself that your father is dead is not just naughty behaviour or a bad joke. This is a serious issue. We still have to find out what we are going do with this.

James is doing well. He wanted to do a course in the catering school in Mombasa. But since the term started already per 1 September we decided that it would be better to start from the beginning and thus to start the new term January 1th. Charles has succeeded to do his driver course and has now his license! He want to become a driver for safaris. Anyone who knows a good book with all the wild animals for Charles please help us? He want to know all the animals and the parks so that he can be a good safari guide! The boys are doing both very well. However there was some tention between them and I took the oppertunity to talk to them and solve the problem. We had a very good talk and they changed their behaviour. Charles is doing bodybuilding and very proud of his muscles. Which he likes to show you if you ask...

The new caretaker is doing well. However we had to talk very seriously cause he seems to think that he is the position whereby he only need to demand, watch and order. He also though that calling private is counted for business calls and now has to pay back the bill. It seems that when you praise your staff it is the sign for them to sit back and enjoy the words still singing in your ears or what is this? It is so hard to find a care taker who simply follows the rules and does his duties? Anyway we still have the good hope that he will continue as before and so far he is doing well for Safari Mission. And when he is doing something he is doing it fast and good he only need to be instructed! So it is already an improvement.

I had a good week in Mombasa, visited the home often, had staff meetings, looked for plots in Kikambala. It was a short but fruitfull week. Mama Jane is back with us. She worked for three years with us from the very first beginning but got overworked in 2005. She wanted to come back before but due to some issues I was not able to take her back. However after we have released Myriam we realized that there is mama needed in the house. So we employed Mama Jane again. She is known with the children, the children like her and she is a very good mother. Rama is still working with us as the cook and assisting Jane with the washing of clothes. James is not really in charge but sometimes takes over some authority when Vincent is gone for other duties. Things are improving in the home!
